RWJBarnabas Health has named a new CEO and president of Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick, it announced Wednesday.

Dr. Matthew B. McDonald III has been with CSH since 2014, most recently as senior vice president and chief medical officer. He joined the hospital as section chief of special needs pediatrics, and rose to positions including president of the medical staff, associate vice president and medical director of outpatient services, and vice president and chief medical officer.

“During his tenure at Children’s Specialized Hospital, Dr. McDonald has distinguished himself as a thought leader and steadfast advocate for children with special health care needs and their families,” RWJBH CEO and President Barry Ostrowsky said in a prepared statement. “His leadership will be pivotal in driving Children’s Specialized Hospital and RWJBarnabas Health forward as the preeminent provider of pediatric health care in New Jersey.”

McDonald’s medical degree is from Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine.
