Smorgasbar Beer Garden opens on Jersey City riverfront

More than a dozen beers on tap, a full bar, great food – and a cool view of Manhattan.

The Smorgasbar Beer Garden had its soft opening at Harborside in Jersey City earlier this month – its first public offering since the owners took over the property formerly known as the Lutze Biergarten.

The 300-seat outdoor venue features a variety of food, including barbecue tacos from Carlitos, Oyster Party’s raw bar and lobster roll pop-ups on weekends, and outdoor wood-fired pizza from Hoboken’s San Giuseppe Pizza

The owners of Smorgasburg, which opened the first New Jersey location of its outdoor market on Saturdays at Harborside in late May, said they are thrilled.

“We couldn’t be more excited to instill our new and unique energy into this amazing venue,” said Jonathan Butler, co-founder of Smorgasburg. “The Jersey City community has welcomed us with open arms, and we are thrilled to finally invite them back to the waterfront to relax at Smorgasbar.”

The beer garden will be open Monday- Thursday from 3-10 p.m.; Friday from 3-midnight; Saturday from noon-midnight; Sunday from noon-10 p.m.

In addition to welcoming walk-in guests, Smorgasbar also will be available for private parties — office gatherings, birthdays, weddings, etc.
