Census: Newark (311,549) edges Jersey City (292,449) as state’s biggest city

Newark topped Jersey City as the New Jersey’s largest city by nearly 20,000 residents, according to 2020 U.S. Census data released by the federal government Thursday.

Newark (311,549) and Jersey City (292,449) are by far the two biggest cities in the state, which has 9,288,944 residents. The state, however, has seven cities with at least 100,000 people.

Other cities of note include Camden (71,791), Hoboken (60,419) and Atlantic City (38,497).
