New Jersey American Water has broken ground on a new operations center in Lawnside, it announced this week.
The new facility will bring 85 employees to the borough, with the possibility of more in the future, the Camden-based water and wastewater utility company said in a news release. It will serve the company’s Southwest region, covering approximately 400,000 people in Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem counties.
“Lawnside is the perfect location for us to house our operations center,” NJAW President Mark McDonough said in a prepared statement. “By being more centrally located to our southern New Jersey customer base, we will be able to provide services and respond even quicker to their needs. We look forward to being a community partner with Lawnside as we continue to grow our workforce and provide high-quality water and wastewater services in the state.”
The operations center will include 19,780 square feet of office and administrative space, as well as about 28,925 square feet of garage and warehouse space. It is expected to be completed by November 2022.
“We welcome New Jersey American Water and appreciate their continued investment in Lawnside,” Mayor Mary Ann Wardlow said in a statement. “Our local businesses look forward to providing our new neighbors with places to shop, eat and run errands.”
