Albert Salama, the founder and CEO of Sabert Corp., a $1 billion international manufacturer of plastic, pulp & paper packaging based in Sayreville, will be given the Association for Corporate Growth New Jersey 2022 Corporate Lifetime Achievement Award during the organization’s signature event in May.
Salama was selected based on his company’s impressive track record of innovation, excellence and corporate growth — it was a startup in 1983 that has grown to be a billion-dollar business with more than 3,000 employees and 14 facilities around the world.
He could have just as easily been selected for his philanthropy. Over the past 18 years, he and his wife have made a commitment to education, provided more than 50 graduating high schools students with a four-year college scholarship.
ACG N.J. President Michael Givner said the group is thrilled to be able to honor Salama.
“It truly is an honor for ACG N.J. to be able to honor such a distinguished entrepreneur,” he said. “Mr. Salama truly embodies the ‘American Dream’ as, from humble beginnings, he built a company worthy of being referred to as an empire.
“The thousands of people he has employed over the years have all contributed greatly to the economic growth in the state of New Jersey. We commend him for his achievements and thank him for his passion and selfless nature.”
A seasoned business developer and business leader, Salama brings a broad array of skills and competencies to all of his endeavors. He has extensive experience in the fields of finance and banking, sales, manufacturing, engineering, supply chain and new product development & commercialization.
“Albert’s natural entrepreneurial spirit drives a clear strategic vision combining organic growth opportunities and acquisition to leverage market trends and unmet market needs,” Givner said.
Salama founded Sabert Corp. with minimal capital and a product line consisting of five items. Sabert now has a solid reputation as an innovative, leading-edge company that delivers outstanding value and service to its large and diverse customer base with products that are used in the storage, packaging and serving of food.
The company has 10 manufacturing facilities in the U.S., plus facilities in England, Belgium, Poland and China.
The company manufactures more than 1,000 stock-keeping units that are sold in the business-to-business markets. The segments it serves include: restaurant chains, supermarkets, food processors and foodservice distribution.
Salama also has established a foothold in the recycling industry with a plastic recycling facility under the name of Nuvida Plastic Technology.
Throughout his career, Salama has been given a number of honors. He won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2014 in the Excellence in Distribution and Manufacturing category in the New Jersey region and was a national finalist.
