Devils announce partnership with Jackpocket app

The New Jersey Devils announced Tuesday a five-year partnership with Jackpocket — an app that enables users to order official state lottery tickets from nine states (including New Jersey) and Washington, D.C.

The partnership is another example of how the sports world has embraced gambling products — and how Jackpocket is looking to leverage that partnership in the state. Jackpocket already has partnership deals with the New York Jets and Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

How does Jackpocket work?

The Jackpocket app provides users with a secure platform to order official state lottery tickets that are then fulfilled on their behalf at a licensed lottery retailer it partners with.

When you place an order, the company will send you an email confirmation that includes all the details of your order. Then you receive another email once it has secured the ticket for you, which includes the ticket serial number. Jackpocket also sends a high-resolution scan of your paper ticket — front and back — for you to view in the app. The email receipt and ticket image are assurance that your ticket was purchased. Your paper ticket is securely stored in a locked, fireproof vault.

If your ticket wins a small prize, your Jackpocket account will be credited. If you win a large prize, the winning ticket will be delivered to you in secure fashion so you can claim your prize directly from the state lottery.

Jackpocket is active in the following areas: Arkansas, Colorado, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Texas and Washington, D.C.

With Jackpocket, users see a copy of a lottery ticket that was purchased by a third party. If the ticket is a winner, winnings are deposit in the user’s bank account. (A Jerseyan won $9.4 million on the app last October.)

Officials with the Devils and Jackpocket said the partnership will provide fans additional benefits — including a contest each game where a fan who correctly names the first player to score will win a prize. There also is talk of a Devils-themed lottery.

Jackpocket CEO Peter Sullivan said he was eager to announce the partnership.

“Jackpocket is proud to partner with the Devils to bring this dedicated fan base a simple, fun way to play the lottery,” he said. “We are excited to introduce new in-game activities and experiences to this fan base throughout the coming years.”

To celebrate the partnership, fans may use the code “NJD22” upon their initial download of the Jackpocket app to receive their first Mega Millions or Powerball Lottery Ticket free on the app.

Adam Cross, senior vice president, corporate partnerships, for the Devils, said the team is excited about the partnership.

“Jackpocket presents Devils and sports fans in New Jersey an opportunity to take their naturally competitive spirit to the next level, from a trusted and celebrated partner,” he said. “From Devils-themed lottery opportunities to special Jackpocket-sponsored sweepstakes and exclusive prizes, we are confident Jackpocket will be the preferred, digital lottery platform for Devils fans.”
