Walter Douglas Jr. has joined Neighborhood Health Services Corp. as its
new vice president and chief operating officer, effective Feb. 28. Douglas unites with
NHSC as it gears up to launch an exciting 55th Anniversary Campaign to raise $5.5
million and position the organization as a best-in-class health care provider.
“Walter is a strategic and visionary leader, who brings tremendous talent and passion to our growing leadership team,” stated Dr. Kerri Powell, NHSC CEO and president. “This role will bring a new level of focus to help NHSC achieve the vision to elevate services, increase our social impact and reach to the growing population of medically underserved and uninsured people.”
In his role, Douglas will manage NHSC facilities, fundraising and development,
planning and management, marketing and communications, human resources, risk
management and corporate compliance, as well as drive government relations, public
affairs and community development.
Douglas joins NHSC after a storied, 17-year career at Rutgers New Jersey Medical
School, where he rose to the position of chief operating officer.
“The New Jersey Medical School and Dr. Robert Johnson provided me with a
solid foundation for success and appreciation for how important the mission of
providing excellent health care services is to the community,” Douglas said in a prepared statement.
The foundation of Douglas’ professional career was established as a member of the
Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at the former University of Medicine
and Dentistry of New Jersey and later at the Foundation of the University of Medicine
and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he developed expertise in public health, grant
writing, organizational development, fundraising and strategic planning.
