2 new ShopRite stores coming to South Jersey in 2023

Zallie family to open Center Square Plaza and Cherrywood Plaza locations in 2023; plans major renovation Glassboro store for later in 2022

Two new ShopRite stores are coming to in South Jersey in 2023, according to an announcement from owner Zallie-Somerset Inc., the Wakefern Food Corp. member that is also marking its 50th anniversary in the supermarket business this year.

David Zallie, president of Zallie-Somerset, additionally announced plans to conduct a major renovation of the ShopRite of Glassboro, with plans to debut it in November.

ShopRite in Center Square Plaza, with a target opening date of March 2023, was one of the locations announced. The store will be newly constructed at the intersection of Center Square and Auburn Roads, across from the Woolwich Township Center in Woolwich Township, and will replace the ShopRite of Gibbstown upon its opening.

Plans are also in the works to open a new ShopRite in Blackwood later in 2023. The new store will be located in the Cherrywood Plaza, at the site of a former Kmart. The store will replace the existing ShopRite of Laurel Hill, which became the family’s very first supermarket in the South Jersey area, when George Zallie, father of David Zallie, opened a Shop & Bag Market there in June 1973. The new store will be located less than a mile from the current location on Blackwood-Clementon Road.

All three stores will feature a full variety of the Zallie’s Fresh Kitchen products from its Food Service and Bakery departments. The focus will include a special emphasis on fresh foods-to-go, custom sandwiches and Zallie’s popular store-made recipes and specialties for easy meal prep and planning. The catering and floral departments can service any size party or event. An enhanced organic product selection comes with an expanded produce department. All stores will also include full-service ShopRite from Home departments to heighten their online shopping services.

“We are excited to be approaching our 50th anniversary in the grocery business with major projects and investments for our customers,” David Zallie said. “We are so grateful to be in business in the South Jersey community for nearly a half-century. Innovating the grocery shopping experience for our guests and supporting the communities we serve is our continuing focus. We are committed to providing an excellent shopping experience centered on service, variety and freshness.”
