Med school rankings: N.J. schools have some of most diverse classes in U.S. (and other categories)

New Jersey’s medical schools scored well on the national rankings for the most diverse programs in the country, according to the U.S. News & World Report annual rankings of graduate programs, which were released this week.

The rankings included a large number of subjects — and then broke down each of those areas of studies into a number of different categories. For instance, there were 14 individual categories.

Diversity of representation based each medical school’s ranking on the percentage of each medical school’s fall 2021 total enrollment (as reported to U.S. News) that are underrepresented minority students, and how that percentage compares with state and national race-ethnic-group proportions.

Here’s how N.J. ranked in the ‘most diverse’ category:

22. Rutgers New Jersey Medical School – Newark;
28. Rutgers RWJ Medical School New Brunswick;
65. Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine;
88. Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine;
97-125. Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.
