Kura Sushi is preparing to open a new restaurant this summer.
The same Japanese restaurant that brought diners a revolving sushi bar in Fort Lee in September 2020 will be opening its signature two-layer conveyor belt system at
Newport Tower in Jersey City in summer 2022.
The Japanese restaurant will occupy 2,200 square feet of space at 525 Washington St., where its culinary concept of menu items on a continually running conveyor will pass each table throughout the restaurant. Guests will have the option to choose from 140 menu offerings from Kura’s Express Belt system, commonly referred to as a “sushi highway.”
The bottom conveyor displays the sushi dishes, each protected by special lids. The top layer delivers items ordered from a touch-panel tablet menu at the table. Food then arrives directly to diners from the kitchen.
The Kura family of companies said it has developed innovative systems that combine advanced technology, premium ingredients and affordable prices to enhance the unique revolving sushi dining experience.
Since the opening of its first restaurant in Japan in 1977, Kura Corp. has grown substantially, with over 500 locations across Japan, Taiwan and the United States.
