Chicago company buys Somerset-based transportation solutions firm

Somerset-based Roadtex Transportation Corp., a provider of temperature-controlled supply chain solutions, has been acquired by a Chicago-based transportation solutions firm, the two announced Thursday.

Echo Global Logistics Inc. will acquire Roadtex and its Roadtex Transportation Management and Roadtex Transportation units under a definitive agreement. Through its value-added warehousing and distribution network, Roadtex covers 85% of the U.S. population within a 24-hour shipping period.

“We are excited to have our dedicated team of professionals join the Echo family,” Bruno Ciacciarelli, co-founder and head of transportation & administration at Roadtex, said in a prepared statement. “As we have gotten to know the Echo team, it was clear our cultures are very similar, and the benefits to joining the Echo team would be substantial for our team members and clients.”

Added Bob Kelly, co-founder and head of sales & VAWD at Roadtex: “Because Roadtex interacts with 100% of the Top 10 big-box retailers on a daily basis, we have longstanding relationships and expertise that we look forward to bringing to Echo. The opportunity to offer these services and our national warehouse footprint to Echo’s clients, while Bruno and I continue to lead Roadtex, will unlock significant synergies.”

Stifel served as Roadtex’s financial adviser, while Zukerman Gore Brandeis & Crossman LLP served as legal adviser. Kirkland & Ellis LLP served as Echo’s legal adviser.
