Lakeland Bank has continued its determined efforts to attract and maintain a diverse workforce and to foster an environment that is supportive of diversity, equity and inclusion. The person largely responsible for moving Lakeland’s DEI programs forward is Alethea Batts, First Senior Vice President – Learning and Development and Chief Diversity Officer. Batts joined the Bank in 2017 as Vice President, Learning and Development and was named Chief Diversity Officer in 2020. In February 2022, she was named the inaugural recipient of the NJBankers Excellence in Diversity Award, having been nominated by her peers in recognition of her leadership qualities and prominent role in advancing diversity at Lakeland, the banking industry, and the community. Batts is also a member of the NJBankers Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council. She earned a bachelor’s degree in History/Afro-American Studies from Princeton University and is a graduate of the Consumer Bankers Association for Retail Executive Management program at the University of Virginia. Batts holds a Human Resources Management Senior Certified Professional certification and a Project Management Professional certification. She resides in Scotch Plains, N.J.
