Jefferson Health’s Marie Stevens, a patient care technician on the Intermediate Care Unit at Jefferson Washington Township Hospital, was recently honored with a BEE Award for Extraordinary Caregivers. A Swedesboro resident — whose husband, Gary Stevens, also works as a PCT in the hospital’s Emergency Department — was nominated for her dedication and willingness to go above and beyond for patients and their families.
“Marie treats everyone with dignity and respect, no matter the situation. When a patient’s call light is on and a nurse is already in the room, Marie still ‘gowns up’ and helps any way she can,” wrote two nursing colleagues who nominated her for the award. “Marie has even swept and mopped patient rooms and hallways. We could not get through these difficult times without her welcoming, calm presence.”
BEE honorees — nominated by patients, visitors, nurses, physicians, and employees — are non-nursing employees who work side-by-side with clinical nurses to improve the patient experience. This award complements the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, bestowed on nurses who make a profound difference in the lives of their patients and their families.
