Carteret-based FreezPak Logistics plans to open a new cold storage facility in Philadelphia’s Port Richmond neighborhood, according to a Wednesday announcement. The facility anticipates 50 new jobs and is projected to open in July 2023.
The new 165,000 square-foot location, owned and operated by FreezPak, will offer cooler and frozen temperature zones and will be run with a new automated storage retrieval system, bringing FreezPak’s robotic fleet to 87 robots that can automatically store and retrieve goods.
“This highly automated facility features 30 robots that will move pallets in and out of the freezer. This achieves our objective to continue to offer superior same-day and next-day service,” Michael Saoud, co-CEO, said.
Building features will include 20 loading docks, 30 trailer parking stalls with container plug-ins and 60 parking spots. The Philadelphia facility will also have a 75-foot building height for the freezer and a 30-foot building height for cool dock.
Consistent with FreezPak’s other facilities, the location will offer cross docking, transportation, repacking, overseas container plug-in, USDA and FDA, all within proximity to Packer Avenue Marine Terminal and Interstate 95.
Dave Saoud, co-CEO, said: “FreezPak is committed to building out a national warehouse network. The unveiling of our new state-of-the-art cold storage facility in Philadelphia only solidifies that commitment.”
The company will soon announce the opening of two more facilities located outside New Jersey.
