NFL Alumni Association and Pacira BioSciences team up to raise awareness about effective opioid alternatives

Multi-year initiative will leverage NFL youth sports events and educational opportunities to educate athletes and communities about non-opioid options to manage pain

The National Football League Alumni Association (NFLA) and Pacira BioSciences Inc. announced the launch of a partnership to increase awareness of the availability and benefits of non-opioid options to manage acute and chronic pain, according to a Tuesday announcement.

The program seeks to educate retired players and their families, NFLA chapter presidents and staff, youth sports organizations including Play 60, Pop Warner, and the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) about the importance of non-opioid pain management options that can reduce or eliminate the need for opioids, which can be associated with unwanted and potentially severe side effects.

Athletes know better than anyone that injury can sometimes be inevitable when it comes to playing sports, particularly as the levels of play continue to elevate. But what happens after that injury—particularly when it comes to pain management—can be a gamechanger. Pacira is committed to bringing safe, effective, and long-lasting non-opioid options to as many patients as possible and partnering with respected organizations like the NFLA helps to strengthen that commitment.

The partnership will also include sponsorship at NFLA national, state and local chapter events, including the Super Bowl, Pro Bowl, and Super Bowl of Golf to name a few.

“Partnering with NFLA gives Pacira a unique and engaging way to inform athletes at every stage of play about the non-opioid options available to treat both acute and chronic pain,” Dave Stack, chief executive officer and chairman of Pacira BioSciences stated. “Our work with respected partners like the NFLA allows us to help support player safety while raising awareness about pain management options that can play a critical role in fighting the opioid crisis.”

The program will launch this fall with various events and activations concluding in May 2025. visit www.pacira.com.
