CarePoint Health System held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday for the opening of the new Dr. Hemant Shah Research Center at Christ Hospital.
Named after Dr. Hemant Shah, an attending physician at the hospital, community leader and philanthropist, the research center celebrates the generous donation from Dr. Shah’s foundation that made it possible and the decades-long positive impact he has had on Hudson County.
Attended by Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, CarePoint CEO Dr. Achintya Moulick, Assemblyman Raj Mukherji, Councilwoman Joyce Watterman, Councilman Yousef Saleh, Christ Hospital Chief Hospital Executive Marie Duffy, Dr. Hemant Shah and members of his family, and other local and hospital system officials, the event included a symposium on health care research where several leading physicians discussed cutting-edge advancements in the field.
“I want to personally extend my deepest gratitude to Dr. Hermant Shah for his generous contribution to our new research center at Christ Hospital, as well as our auditorium at Hoboken University Medical Center. His contribution is greatly appreciated and it will be a tremendous boost to our mission of bringing in healthcare advances through clinical, epidemiological and translational research,” Moulick stated.
Shah was born in India and moved to the United States of America to pursue his career in the medical field. He is a long-time resident of Jersey City since moving to the United States. e is also a Board-Certified Family Practice Physician and is currently an Attending Physician at two of CarePoint Health System’s Hospitals — Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital. Over the course of his distinguished career, Shah has successfully held the office of Health Commissioner of the City of Jersey City from 1993-1994 along with several leadership and board positions in various hospitals in Hudson County.
