JCMC hosts awards ceremony for high school and college summer interns

Jersey City Medical Center, an affiliate of RWJBarnabas Health, on Friday held its annual awards ceremony and luncheon for 28 college and high school summer interns, who worked and were mentored for six weeks at the hospital. The interns were children of employees, physicians, and volunteers.

Michael Prilutsky, president and CEO of Jersey City Medical Center, addressed the interns, congratulating them for their work in the various departments at the hospital, including the operating room, emergency room, dietary, human resources, marketing, and public affairs.

The culminating event included presentations from select participants who spoke about their learning experiences and insights. A professional development component of the summer internship included weekly presentations by the students to hospital staff. JCMC’s Human Resource team, led by Mary Cataudella, Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer led the coordination of the program.

A common understanding from the students is that all JCMC’s employees play an essential role in providing care and service to the patients and communities served. The students attended a weekly professional development session, where they learned about a day in the life of a trauma surgeon, coping with mental illness after COVID19, and interviewing skills.
