Saint Peter’s University expands data science degree programs

The Data Science Institute in the Frank J. Guarini School of Business at Saint Peter’s University will be expanding its offerings for current and prospective students in the rapidly growing fields of analytics and data science, it announced.

Applications are now being accepted for bachelor’s degree and doctoral degree programs. The institute previously solely offered master’s programs in data science, business analytics, marketing science and cybersecurity.

“The Data Science Institute is comprised of the fastest growing collection of academic programs in the Frank J. Guarini School of Business and has tripled its enrollment since 2018,” Frederick Bonato, executive vice president and provost at Saint Peter’s University, stated. “We are proud to build on our success and to prepare more graduates to fill roles in one of the most sought-after positions in the tech industry and beyond.”

The Bachelor of Science in data science will include 48 credit hours of major core courses. By the end of this program, with its strong focus on computer science and statistics and applied mathematics, students will graduate with the knowledge and competencies required to become data science and analytics professionals.

Students in the B.S. in data science program also will gain skills in programming, cloud computing, machine learning and business analytics, allowing them to pursue certification in Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and IBM Data Science Professional. The university will also offer an academic path that will enable students to earn a B.S. and M.S. in data science in five years through an accelerated program.

The Ph.D. in data science was designed to provide a post-graduate option for professionals and advanced students who wish to pursue or advance careers in research and leadership roles in the analytics and data science fields. The 70-credit program includes 54 credit hours of required courses and 16 credit hours of thesis research.
