Calling it an effort to bring “taboo topics” around cannabis out in the open, J. Handy announced he will be hosting the 420 Expo from Sept. 16-18 at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison.
Handy, who founded the EXXXOTICA adult-themed events in 2006 to help increase awareness and acceptance of that community, said he is launching 420 Expo to do the same for the cannabis community.
“Recreational cannabis may be legalized in the Garden State, but there is still a lot of negative perception and murkiness surrounding the topic,” Handy said. “The goal of the 420 Expo is to bring the cannabis community out into the open. To create open conversations. To allow people to be open to something new in society — and learn about it in a knowledgeable, and fun, atmosphere.”
Dan Davis, the co-creator of 420 Expo, said the event will have something for everyone.
“We are bringing the tri-state area its first true celebration of cannabis for the general public,” he said. “We want to not only educate, but entertain, and, make no mistake, cannabis is the star at the 420 Expo.”
To be clear, THC will not be sold at 420 Expo. However, attendees may bring the legally permissible amount with them and smoke it in an outdoor “smoking section.”
Tommy Chong, from the legendary team of Cheech and Chong, is expected to attend the event.
