Podiatric surgeon DeCoteau joins Neighborhood Health

In a move that Neighborhood Health hopes will boost its social impact campaign, the group announced that Dr. Kordai DeCoteau has joined the team as the new in-house podiatric surgeon.

Plainfield-based Neighborhood Health is attempting to raise $5.5 million to acquire state-of-the-art technology to help in its mission to bolster access to health care for the underserved and uninsured.

Dr. Kerri Powell, the CEO of Neighborhood Health, is confident DeCoteau will help in that effort.

Talks with Dr. D

Dr. Kordai DeCoteau is a public speaker and founding member of Sisters in Podiatry and Femmes Noires Medical. She also created “Talks with Dr. D,” a virtual platform that focuses on all things health, wellness and beauty for people affected by breast cancer, their caregivers and supporters.

“Dr. DeCoteau is an award-winning thought leader who brings passion, purpose and innovation to our growing team,” Powell said. “As our resident podiatrist, she will elevate Neighborhood Health’s thought leadership locally as well as around the country, allowing us to provide services to more members of our community, helping those who often forgo this type of care.”

DeCoteau, who is bilingual, will help English- and Spanish-speaking patients with problems that affect their feet or lower legs. She will help treat injuries as well as complications from ongoing health issues like diabetic foot, minor trauma, 3D bunion surgery and heel pain.

DeCoteau also will work to create a department for residency graduates to join and care for the community.

“In these times we’re in, I wanted to make a difference, so it brings me great joy to join Neighborhood Health, one of the most impactful, federally qualified health centers in the country,” she said. “Together, we will offer innovative care and a multidisciplinary approach regardless of insurance or immigration status.”
