McCarter & English: Record growth/revenue – and another $1 million share for equity partners

McCarter & English has achieved a new record in both gross revenue and revenue per lawyer, and a second consecutive year in which profits per equity partner exceeded $1 million, the firm announced Monday.

The third year of record growth comes under the leadership of Executive Committee Chairman Joseph Lubertazzi, Firmwide Managing Partner Joseph Boccassini and Chief Operating Officer John Brefach.

Lubertazzi, who is starting his fourth year as chairman, said the firm hit a number of high marks.

“This was a tremendous year for McCarter, not just in revenue, but also in the diverse makeup of our top rainmakers and leadership,” he said. “Our lawyers and staff throughout the firm have worked diligently to position us for further growth over the long term. We are very proud of what we have accomplished together this past year.”

Boccassini said he is proud of the firm’s long-term vision.

“Building off our strong financial results from the prior year, we invested a portion of our profits this year in our long-term growth and the future of the firm,” he said. “We recruited world-class lawyers at every level and expanded our capabilities in both subject matter and geographic footprint, opening new offices in Indianapolis and Miami, in two states where we see great opportunity.

“That investment has also extended to a wide array of health and wellness programs for our attorneys and staff, as well as meaningful training initiatives designed to foster collaboration and advance the professional development of our colleagues across the firm.”

The firm added 14 new lateral partners across seven offices, including former New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Jaynee LaVecchia, and elected 10 new partners.

Lubertazzi and Boccassini also pointed to the firm’s diversity achievements: · Mary Gabriel was named deputy firmwide managing partner, focusing on governance and strategic growth initiatives;

· Six of the firm’s top 10 top rainmakers are women or diverse partners;

· Six of the firm’s 13 office managing partners are women partners;

· Five of the firm’s 12 practice group leaders are women partners;

· Expanded capabilities in products liability, real estate, appellate practice, data privacy, government contracts, energy, intellectual property and government affairs.

Lubertazzi and Boccassini said the firm had a sustained focus on diversity, equity and inclusion through various initiatives, including the Firm’s 1L diversity program. McCarter was one of only 43 U.S.-based law firms named to Bloomberg Law’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Framework.

There also was an enhanced wellness program for all employees with a focus on new physical and mental health-care benefits.

“We operate with a growth mindset and have a very exciting year ahead,” Lubertazzi said. “We remain focused on expanding our service capabilities and continuing our strong lateral growth, and we are constantly improving our technologies and infrastructure to better serve our clients and communities.”
