Meteoric Biopharmaceuticals, a diversified global biopharma leader, announced Monday that it is opening an office in Morris Plains that initially will create approximately a dozen new jobs — and likely add more in 2023.
Meteoric, based in India, bills itself as a one-stop solution for biological requirements across enzymes, probiotics, nutraceuticals, finished formulations and animal health care. Its mission prioritizes quality assurance, making sure processes, from product customization and concept formulation all the way to contract manufacturing, take place all under one roof, company officials said.
Meteoric, which owns 10 patents and more than 50 trademarks, services 500 customers across 50 industries in more than 90 countries. Its headquarters are in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.
The facility in Morris Plains will primarily act as a distribution warehouse, where Meteoric will store an inventory of enzymes, probiotics and nutraceuticals. But company officials said Meteoric plans to undertake additional research & development projects in the U.S. with New Jersey at the center of its North American operations.
The announcement is a direct result of the efforts of the Choose New Jersey India Center, which was founded in 2019 during Gov. Phil Murphy’s business attraction trip to India.
The office aims to showcase New Jersey’s vested interest in the subcontinent and helps Indian companies looking to expand or break into the North American market.
CEO Gaurav Kaushik certainly agreed. He said being less than 30 miles from Port Newark and Newark Liberty International Airport makes Morris Plains a perfect location to ship goods throughout the U.S. market and export goods across the globe.
“Having a physical presence in New Jersey is essential for Meteoric to reach the next level in biopharmaceutical manufacturing,” he said. “In addition to its ideal proximity to our target markets, New Jersey has one of the most advanced pharmaceutical ecosystems in the United States. We are thrilled to plant roots here, while continuing to prioritize quality assurance for clients old and new.”
Tarun Gupta, representative to the New Jersey India Center, said the opening is great for the state — and Meteoric.
“Meteoric Biopharmaceuticals is already a global leader,” he said. “Expanding to New Jersey and gaining access to the state’s exceptional talent pool and pharmaceutical ecosystem will further solidify the company’s position around the world.”
Choose New Jersey CEO Wes Mathews said Meteoric will be a perfect fit in the state.
“This expansion adds to the state’s impressive roster of industry leaders in the life sciences sector,” he said. “As New Jersey continues its storied history of developing lifesaving pharmaceuticals, we are thrilled to continue developing a strong global network of the world’s smartest minds who bring their talents to our great state.”
