Kura Revolving Sushi Bar opens at Newport Tower in Jersey City — its 2nd N.J. location

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, which features 140 items served on a conveyor belt system that circles the restaurant, opened its second New Jersey location Sunday at Newport Tower in Jersey City.

The restaurant, which was founded in Japan in 1977, opened in Fort Lee in the fall of 2020. It now has 42 locations in the U.S.

Kura officials said the company provides savory, authentic Japanese dishes made with high-quality ingredients — and has an ongoing promise to prepare food using natural, premium ingredients free of artificial sweeteners, seasonings, preservatives and colorings.

And, don’t be confused, you’re not simply pulling off pre-made selections from a revolving belt.

Restaurant officials said each booth and counter space comes with a tablet that allows you to place an order that is sent to the kitchen staff, which then preps the dishes and sends them zipping down the top layer express belt directly to your table. The same process plays out for drink orders, too.

Officials said the “Kura Experience” also features a Bikkura Pon Prize System. Here’s how it works:

  • A short anime plays on the tablet after every five sushi plates are dispensed into the plate slot. Prizes are received after every 15 sushi plates are dispensed into the plate slot.
  • Exclusively at Kura Revolving Sushi Bar restaurants in the U.S., the Tetris x Kura Sushi Bikkura Pon Series 2 Collaboration includes a prize collection of a lanyard, temporary tattoos and can badges. Jersey City guests will receive a single prize for every 15 sushi plates purchased. This prize collection will also be available for individual purchase in-store. This prize collaboration will be available while supplies last.

The restaurant will be open from noon to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

On Wednesday, it will begin its normal hours:

  • Sunday-Thursday: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Friday-Saturday: 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
