EVs in N.J.: A look at the top counties and towns for ownership

One of every 100 cars in the state is now an electric vehicle — and that doesn’t include hybrids.

Where are they?

NJ101.5 crunched the numbers.

Here are the ZIP codes that have the most registered EVs:

  • Princeton (08540): 1,019;
  • Monroe Township (08831): 727;
  • Edison (08820): 585;
  • Lakewood (08701): 561;
  • Livingston (07039): 528.

Interestingly, none of those five ZIP codes are in the county that has the most EVs.

Here’s that list:

  • Bergen: 11,606;
  • Middlesex: 8,719;
  • Essex: 7,504;
  • Monmouth: 7,180;
  • Morris: 5,965.

While those counties have the most registered EVs, Somerset County has the highest percentage of registered EVs. In Somerset, 4,943 of its 248,836 cars are EVs, good for 1.99%.

Bergen had the second-highest percentage, at 1.67%.
