Port Jersey Logistics looks to keep momentum going with new (but familiar) leader at helm

Jeff Ramella elevated to president

Following a year of tremendous growth highlighted by a key acquisition and planned expansion into the South, Port Jersey Logistics said that, effective Jan. 1, it elevated Jeff Ramella to president as CEO Rob Russo moved into the role of chairman.

Over the past 20 years, Russo built Port Jersey Logistics into a leading full-service third-party logistics provider to customers in the food and beverage space and other industries requiring warehousing and dry & temperature-controlled freight transportation. Now, Ramella aims to develop strategies to keep the organization moving forward.

“We will continue to invest in our systems, infrastructure and people, so we are solidly positioned to serve our clients’ needs today and in the future,” Ramella said.

Ramella joined Port Jersey Logistics in 2020 as director of business development and was promoted to corporate vice president a year ago. Before joining Port Jersey Logistics, Ramella spent nearly 17 years at Worldwide Express, a company he helped grow from the ground up into a $35 million annual sales operation covering four states.

Russo said Ramella’s entrepreneurial spirit and thought leadership is evident throughout the Port Jersey organization, which includes Tyler Distribution, Continental Logistics and 21st Century Distribution.

“Jeff has helped drive significant improvements in process and structure, spearheaded new initiatives in technology and expansion through acquisition and opened the doors to new regional operations,” Russo said.

In 2022, Ramella led the efforts to acquire TruckItNow Transportation, which broadened Continental Logistics’ nationwide reach, and the planned opening of a new 281,000-square-foot food-grade warehouse in Savannah, Georgia.

“After 20 years, it is truly an honor to pass the baton to such a dynamic leader and team builder,” Russo said. “Jeff’s skills and industry expertise will enable Port Jersey to continue to enhance its logistics solutions and build an organization that creates opportunity, attracts the best talent, and allows us to serve our loyal customers best.”

“I fully support Jeff, (Corporate Vice President) Gary Murray, and (Controller) Phil Culotta as they lead our organization to even greater heights,” Russo added.
