Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital’s Breast Care Connection granted accredited status from American College of Surgeons

The American College of Surgeons’ National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers said it has granted accredited status to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital’s Breast Care Connection. RWJUH has held accredited status since 1999.

To achieve voluntary NAPBC accreditation, a breast center must demonstrate compliance with the NAPBC standards that address a center’s leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement for patients. Breast centers seeking NAPBC accreditation undergo a site visit every three years.

RWJUH, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, together with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, is the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and leading cancer program.

It offers the very latest in comprehensive breast health services, including mammograms, 3D mammograms, genetic testing, breast surgery by fellowship trained surgeons, clinical trials and sophisticated radiation therapy techniques such as proton therapy.

RWJUH Breast Care Connection is a unique breast health program designed specifically to guide women through the breast health process in a private, comfortable, friendly environment. Bilingual breast health outreach coordinators are available to answer questions and ease any fears regarding results or surgery. Breast Care Connection services span all aspects of breast health connecting patients with a breast health navigator.

“Receiving reaccreditation from the NAPBC demonstrates the strong commitment of our robust team at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey in collaboration with RWJUH to providing the highest quality, personalized care to breast cancer patients in our community, through advanced treatments, research and clinical trials,” Dr. Deborah Toppmeyer, chief medical officer, said. Toppmeyer is also the director of the Stacy Goldstein Breast Cancer Center; director, LIFE Center; and chief, medical oncology, at Rutgers Cancer Institute.
