With framework for its midrise apartment building now underway, the Metropolitan in Springfield has reached a key construction milestone. According to a Thursday announcement from developer Garden Communities, the mixed-use development in suburban Union County is progressing for a mid-2023 pre-leasing launch.
Located at 92 Millburn Ave. on the former Saks Fifth Avenue store site, the Metropolitan will introduce 270 luxury rental residences. The apartment building will include 223 one- and two-bedroom rentals. Additionally, 47 two- and three-bedroom townhomes are under construction around the property perimeter. The Metropolitan will also incorporate approximately 5,000 square feet of retail space fronting on upper Millburn Avenue.
“The Metropolitan is establishing a new best-and-highest use for this legendary Millburn Avenue address and serving as a catalyst to restore vibrancy to its neighborhood,” Garden Communities’ managing director, Scott Loventhal, said. “The community’s impressive amenities, ultraconvenient location and diverse product mix will establish a one-of-a-kind lifestyle that will appeal to every demographic of renter.”
Residents at the Metropolitan will enjoy a host of lifestyle features, including a daytime concierge, lobby coffee bar, multiple lounges and gathering spaces, a state-of-the-art fitness center and more. Conveniences will abound, from garage parking with EV chargers, to package lockers and resident storage. Outside, park-like grounds will foster passive and active recreation with courtyards, seating areas and firepits; a heated pool with sundecks; and an outdoor kitchen, barbecue grills and dining areas.
Located at the nexus of Millburn-Short Hills and Springfield, the Metropolitan is just minutes from the Mall at Short Hills, Paper Mill Playhouse, Baltusrol Golf Club, parks and recreational facilities, and ample shopping and dining along Millburn Avenue. Proximity to New Jersey Transit’s Short Hills train station will offer an easy commute to Manhattan. Major thoroughfares such as Interstate 78 and Routes 22 and 24 all are nearby.
