Michael McCauley was named the new chief of staff to CEO Bob Garrett, Hackensack Meridian Health announced Wednesday.
McCauley, who was elevated from his role as vice president of marketing and communications, also will serve as senior vice president of corporate services and governance and strategic communications.
He will assume all of the new roles March 6.
In his new post, McCauley will coordinate all activities of the office of the CEO. He will work closely with the executive team to lead and implement networkwide initiatives, internal and external projects and partnerships and will act as a liaison to Hackensack Meridian Health’s board of trustees.
In addition to these responsibilities, McCauley will continue to oversee and guide internal, strategic and executive communications and network events.
McCauley has been with HMH since 2010. Garrett said that experience is one of the reasons McCauley is a perfect choice for the new role.
“During his many years at Hackensack Meridian Health, Mike’s leadership has made a remarkable difference in our marketing and communications efforts,” Garrett said. “Our successful messaging and brand awareness is a direct result of his thoughtful strategy to reach more patients.
“I look forward to working with Mike in his new role, as we continue to provide the highest-quality, compassionate care to the communities we serve.”
McCauley became vice president of communications in 2016, when Meridian Health and Hackensack University Health Network merged to become Hackensack Meridian Health. His leadership has guided the network’s brand awareness, effectively positioning Hackensack Meridian Health as New Jersey’s preferred health network.
McCauley and his team have been pivotal in harmonizing Hackensack Meridian Health’s internal communications; developed and introduced HealthU, the network’s content marketing platform; scaled the network’s media coverage by 600% since 2019; planned and executed high-profile events, such as the Hackensack Meridian Health annual meeting; and positioned network executives as health care thought leaders in distinguished industry publications, such as Modern Healthcare.
Before joining Hackensack Meridian Health, McCauley served as vice president of internal communications at Christie’s and held various leadership roles at Siemens, where he started his career.
McCauley holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration from West Virginia University and an MBA from Monmouth University. He also has been recognized as a Hall of Fame leader at Hackensack Meridian Health.
