Bryan Electric installs 5 charging stations for Jersey City’s new EV school buses

Hamilton-based Bryan Electric completed the installation of five Level 2 charging stations in Jersey City.

Bryan Electric, a commercial electrical contractor founded in 1980, has now completed the installation of more than 650 EV charging stations at private, public and government facilities in the state.

Company spokesperson George Koutsouradis said Bryan Electric is committed to helping public, private and government facilities reduce their carbon footprint.

“We are particularly pleased to have completed this installation, which removes five traditional school buses from Jersey City streets and replaces them with clean electric engines,” he said. “It’s better for the environment, the community and the students.”

With funding from the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust, Jersey City obtained $1.8 million to purchase five new Blue Bird EV school buses, each with a capacity to seat up to 72. Jersey City also obtained funding from Public Service Electric & Gas‘ Mixed Use Commercial Charging Program toward the cost of the charging stations.

The buses can travel up to 120 miles per charge.
