Moorestown-based Reconstructive Orthopedics has entered into a letter of intent with Virtua Health and is on track to become part of the Virtua Medical Group in July, according to a Thursday announcement from Virtua Health.
Virtua Medical Group is a network of medical and surgical physicians and other clinicians employed by or exclusively affiliated with Virtua that collectively offer an array of care services, including primary care, urgent care, specialty care and much more.
When the acquisition is complete, the practices will operate under the name Virtua Reconstructive Orthopedics, honoring both longstanding and well-established brands. All providers and staff in good standing — about 300 people — are being invited to transition to the Virtua workforce, and patient care will continue without interruption.
“Virtua has long been dedicated to quality health care close to home, and views this as fundamental to a person’s quality of life,” Dennis Pullin, CEO and president of Marlton-based Virtua Health, said. “For decades, the doctors and professionals of Reconstructive Orthopedics have delivered outstanding care to this community and are held in the highest regard by their patients. We are excited and honored to have this caliber of experts join Virtua and to continue this legacy moving forward.”
Founded in 1977, Reconstructive Orthopedics is one of the largest New Jersey-headquartered orthopedic practices, having performed more than 100,000 surgeries. Its roster of expert clinicians includes specialists in all major areas of the musculoskeletal system, including neck, spine, shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, foot, elbow and wrist. The staff also includes experts in trauma and sports medicine.
Reconstructive Orthopedics has eight medical offices across four New Jersey counties: Burlington, Camden, Cumberland and Gloucester. Its Voorhees office is located within the Virtua Health & Wellness Center adjoining Virtua Voorhees Hospital. Reconstructive Orthopedics recently opened a new 28,000-square-foot medical office building on Route 38 in Moorestown. It also offers two “OrthoExpress” urgent care centers.
Virtua Health is South Jersey’s largest health system, with five acute-care hospitals and an extensive network of more than 35 surgery centers. Virtua Medical Group employs more than 1,000 clinicians.
“By coming together with Virtua, we multiply our ability to provide comprehensive, trusted care for residents of South Jersey and beyond,” Dr. Scott Schoifet, president of Reconstructive Orthopedics, said. “The two organizations maintain similar goals and shared values. Once unified, we will continue to advance the patient experience by creating a broader, more comprehensive continuum of services and support.”
“For years, Virtua has referred its patients to Reconstructive Orthopedics because we recognize and value the high-caliber, innovative offerings they provide,” Dr. John Matsinger, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Virtua Health, said. “It’s rare to find such alignment, and I am certain our existing relationships will only grow stronger in the months and years ahead.”
