22 from N.J. land on Forbes’ list of America’s Best Employers for Diversity in 2023 … guess which one is No. 2?

TD Bank, Johnson & Johnson, Bristol Myers Squibb and Merck & Co. all made the Top 100 of Forbes’ list of America’s Best Employers for Diversity in 2023, released Tuesday.

TD Bank stood out for the second consecutive year, jumping from No. 9 in 2022 to No. 2 this year. DEI is “embedded in our culture,” John Patton, TD Bank’s head of U.S. diversity & inclusion said.

Johnson & Johnson, based in New Brunswick, came in at No. 32; Bristol Myers Squibb, based in Princeton, was No. 69; and Merck & Co., based in Rahway, was No. 71.

Forbes ranked 500 companies for the sixth annual version of the list.

New Jersey had 22 on the overall list, but only 10 in the Top 250, including No. 122 Princeton University; No. 133 Novartis; No. 160 Anywhere Real Estate; No. 204 Unilever; No. 207 Deloitte; and No. 242 Educational Testing Service.

Cushman & Wakefield, which has a large presence in New Jersey but is headquartered in Delaware, was No. 198, and a number of  other companies that also have a strong presence in New Jersey were ranked. For instance, Bank of America is ranked No. 94 and based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Forbes partnered with market research company Statista to survey 45,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 1,000 employees and pinpoint the companies they identified as being most dedicated to diversity, equity & inclusion.

The final list ranks the 500 employers that not only received the most recommendations, but also boast the most diverse boards and executive ranks, as well as the most proactive diversity & inclusion initiatives.
