Great workplaces have become less about Friday beer blasts and more about whether employees are equipped to experience work and life more fully, given that the two are more blended than ever, according to Inc. Magazine, which released its 2023 Best Workplaces list on Tuesday.
Whether perks come in the form of a life coach or a stipend that allows someone to buy a life jacket and a kayak, some of the “in-office perks were never perks in the first place,” said Shane McFeely, an employee satisfaction specialist at Quantum Workplace, which conducted an employee survey for Inc.
Topics for the survey included things such as management effectiveness, perks, fostering employee growth and overall company culture. Each organization’s benefits were also audited to determine overall score and ranking.
“Rethinking what we do in the workplace is going to shift some of those perks. What is the office for? It’s probably not for your free lunch. It’s all about innovation and collaboration,” McFeely added.
Inc.’s annual list is a comprehensive measurement of American companies that excel in creating exceptional workplaces and company culture, whether operating in a physical or virtual facility.
After collecting data from thousands of submissions, Inc. selected 591 honorees this year, with nine hailing from New Jersey:
- Baldwin & Obenauf, Somerville;
- Coyne PR, Parsippany;
- lotus823, Red Bank;
- Reliant Vision, Metuchen;
- Semperis, Hoboken;
- Stackable Sensations, Parsippany;
- Trinity Packaging Supply, Voorhees;
- Violet PR, Montclair; and
- Vytalize Health, Hoboken.
