How to track and make sense of the Air Quality Index in New Jersey

Wildfires raging in Canada have created air quality issues throughout the East Coast, and especially in New Jersey. Unhealthy air quality warnings have been declared by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection statewide as of Wednesday and Thursday. As of Thursday, the alert has been extended to Friday at 11:59 pm.

How do I view air quality data for my area?

AirNow is a great online tool to use to track air quality data by ZIP code. AirNow reports air quality using the official U.S. Air Quality Index (AQI), a color-coded index designed to communicate whether air quality is healthy or unhealthy for you.
