Community Offshore Wind provides STEAM field trips to New Jersey youth as part of partnership

Community Offshore Wind is increasing youth access to science, technology, engineering, arts and math education for over 60 students from overburdened communities in New Jersey.

Community Offshore Wind, the joint venture between RWE and National Grid Ventures, will contribute $15,000 to a partnership with New Jersey-based All Things Are Possible Foundation. The contribution will pay for students, ages 5-12, from southern New Jersey to attend ATAP’s Summer Empowerment Experience, which provides academic enrichment and exposure to a variety of careers.

The STEAM-focused program will provide access to museums, environmental and marine education for hands-on learning opportunities.

In total, students will participate in 10 interactive field trips at local destinations, including the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, the Fashion Design Center of South Jersey to study textiles and design their own eco-friendly fashions, and the Liberty Science Center to learn about planetariums, wild birds, the importance of waterways and wormholes.

“Introducing local students to STEAM careers early helps build the workforce of the future to support the state of New Jersey and the offshore wind industry,” Pat Johnson, vice president and deputy project director, Community Offshore Wind, said. “Together with ATAP, we want to inspire students to look ahead and get excited about renewables and climate-related fields. Building a diverse, equitable workforce is just one of the many ways we are working to benefit New Jersey communities through our project.”

The ATAP Foundation serves 400 students per year from Willingboro, Trenton, and Camden to empower youth and enhance the community through academics, athletics, awareness and arts.

“The generosity of Community Offshore Wind will impact nearly 60 students at All Things Are Possible Foundation as they explore STEAM throughout our 10-week Summer Empowerment Experience,” Tiffani Worthy, chairwoman and CEO, All Things Are Possible Foundation, said. “Thank you, Community Offshore Wind, for partnering with us to help young people to discover the possibilities in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.”

The Summer Empowerment Experience program runs from June 20 through Aug. 25 to connect students to educational enrichment activities.
