Hackensack University Medical Center is once again the top-rated hospital in New Jersey, according to the prestigious U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals ranking for 2023, it was announced Tuesday morning.
It marks the eighth time HUMC has been first on the list in the past 12 years. This year, however, it can be argued that HUMC is better than ever.

HUMC also had three specialty areas ranked as “high performing.”
Other Hackensack Meridian Health facilities were honored, too.
Jersey Shore University Medical Center was ranked No. 6 overall in the state and among the Top 25 in the metro area. And Hackensack Meridian JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute was ranked as a Top 50 Rehabilitation Hospital in the nation for the fifth year in a row.
HMH CEO Bob Garrett obviously was thrilled.
“Each year, Hackensack Meridian Health hospitals are recognized for leading the way in providing high-quality, compassionate care to the patients and communities we serve,” he said. “Our nationally acclaimed rehabilitation expertise supports patients in all aspects of their health and recovery. This year, we are incredibly proud that Hackensack University Medical Center has again been named the top hospital in New Jersey and Jersey Shore University Medical Center one of the Top 10 hospitals in the state.”
Morristown Medical Center, which also has finished first or second for the past 12 years, was second. It also had six specialty areas recognized nationally. Hackensack and Morristown were the only hospitals in the state to have specialty areas nationally ranked.
