Hackensack Meridian Bayshore Medical Center said it recently acquired the world’s first and only breast biopsy platform to combine vacuum-assisted tissue acquisition, real-time imaging, verification and advanced post-biopsy handling into an all-in-one, integrated system.
The Hologic Brevera breast biopsy system with CorLumina imaging combines stereotactic breast imaging technology with real-time X-ray imaging to provide faster, more comfortable and less invasive breast biopsy care.
Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel is among only a few centers in New Jersey to have access to Brevera.
“In the past, we would have to remove several tissue samples and then carry those samples to a different room, where an X-ray would be performed to ensure that the target was retrieved,” Dr. Denis D’Angelo, breast imaging and diagnostic radiologist at Bayshore Medical Center, said. “With the Brevera biopsy device, X-rays of the specimens are taken as we are sampling, so that we can tell we were successful after removing only one or two core specimens.”
Patient benefits of the Brevera system include:
- Less invasive, more comfortable biopsies with fewer samples required;
- Faster, more accurate procedures due to real-time specimen verification;
- Reduced risk of bleeding; and
- Improved patient experience due to shorter wait times.
