Spectrum Works, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing job training and employment placement services for individuals on the autism spectrum, on Tuesday announced a groundbreaking partnership with the Montclair Public Library. This collaboration marks a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and empowering autistic individuals with employment opportunities.
The partnership between Spectrum Works and Montclair Public Library not only highlights the remarkable abilities of autistic individuals, but emphasizes the importance of inclusivity in our communities. It is a testament to the power of collaboration in creating a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive world.
The inaugural participant of this partnership is Brandon Del Porto, whose dedication and passion for his role at the Montclair Public Library exemplifies the transformative potential of Spectrum Works’ job training, internship and employment programs. Assigned to the nonfiction & fiction department, Brandon adeptly utilizes the Dewey Decimal Classification System to arrange books systematically, ensuring they return to their proper place on the shelves. His commitment goes beyond mere shelf-stacking; he diligently pushes books to the front, making all titles readily accessible and ensuring that shelves are never overfilled. Del Porto has swiftly integrated into the library team, using his strong organizational skills and attention to detail to enhance the library experience for all patrons.
“I love working at the library,” Del Porto said. “My time at Montclair library has been very rewarding, I have learned a lot and would like to continue working here. I love being around all my favorite books. All in all, it’s all good.”
Founded in 2011, Spectrum Works has been at the forefront of transforming the employment landscape for autistic individuals. Through comprehensive programs created to assist businesses in creating inclusive workforces while collaborating closely with high schools and universities to pioneer job training initiatives that empower autistic individuals to flourish in a diverse array of industries, Spectrum Works has been a driving force in breaking down barriers and fostering stronger workforce inclusivity across New Jersey.
“At Spectrum Works, we firmly believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to showcase their talents and contribute to their communities,” Ann Marie Sullivan, founder and CEO of Spectrum Works, said. “Brandon’s exceptional work at Montclair Public Library exemplifies the incredible potential of individuals on the autism spectrum when provided with the right support and environment. We are thrilled to partner with Montclair Public Library and look forward to the positive impact we will collectively create.”
“We are thrilled and immensely proud about our partnership with Spectrum Works, as it opens doors and limitless opportunities for autistic individuals within the world of books,” Jodi Silverman, head of youth and teen services, said. “Like all public libraries, the Montclair Public Library is committed to welcoming everyone. Through this partnership, we aim to nurture their talents and empower them to shine brightly and become indispensable members of the workforce, whether they find their permanent homes within the library system, a bookstore or beyond. This shared journey is a testament to the transformative power of community collaboration and inclusion in shaping a more diverse and vibrant literary landscape.”
