Perhaps it’s a good thing that the always-popular Newark Restaurant Week actually lasts 10 days — patrons will need the extra time if they hope to get to all 58 establishments that are participating.
This year’s event, which starts Friday and runs through Oct. 1, is bigger than ever, said Emily Manz, senior vice president of business development at Invest Newark, which is the lead sponsor of the event.
Manz said attendees will enjoy an array of prix fixe menus and exclusive offers on breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner offerings, spanning a range of dishes, cocktails and treats.
Best of all, patrons will be supporting local entrepreneurs, as many of the venues are proudly owned by local Newark restaurateurs, exemplifying the city’s burgeoning small business community.
“Most of the eateries are owned by local entrepreneurs who play a vital role in the city’s economy,” she said. “Newark Restaurant Week was created to amplify these business owners and drive traffic to their establishments.”
This year, Newark Restaurant Week is introducing the #NewarkRW Foodie Passport, encouraging attendees to explore the city’s neighborhoods. Eating at and collecting a passport stamp from one restaurant in each of Newark’s five wards offers event attendees the opportunity to enter a drawing for a $1,000 Newark Gift Card once the event concludes.
Manz said Invest Newark is confident the event will drive additional foot traffic and generate enthusiasm in the coming 10 days — and beyond.
“Over the past few years of hosting Newark Restaurant Week, Invest Newark has conducted surveys among the participating businesses to understand how successful the event has turned out to be for each,” she said. “Many restaurants reported that Newark Restaurant Week attracted new clientele and reconnected them with long-absent patrons.
“This year, we’re excited to collaborate with more restaurant owners than ever, including new and local favorites. We have also engaged more tracking tools in order to follow up with both participants and restaurant owners on their experience with the event.”
The event is sponsored by Invest Newark, with support of the Junction at Gateway (Newark’s new “Restaurant Row”), Rutgers University – Newark and the New Jersey Devils.
