United Way of Greater Newark will be hosting its Centennial Gala on Wednesday. Celebrating 100 years of service to the greater Newark community, the United Way will be presenting the esteemed William M. Ashby Community Service Award for the first time since 2016.
The William M. Ashby Community Service Award is a symbol of excellence in community leadership and service. It is named after Ashby, a visionary community leader who was New Jersey’s first Black social worker and established United Way of Greater Newark. The award will be presented to Dr. Denise Rodgers, in recognition of her exceptional dedication and contributions to community service.
United Way will also be honoring Prudential Financial and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey for unwavering support for the last 100 years, and Wells Fargo as its Centennial Champion. Their dedication to community development and their extensive philanthropic efforts have significantly contributed to the organization’s mission of creating a lasting and positive impact on the Greater Newark community.
The event will be held from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Newark Museum of Art.
This gala, which is possible thanks to the generosity of Centennial Champion sponsor Wells Fargo, Centennial Diamond sponsor Mars Wrigley and additional gala sponsors, will serve as a testament to the collective achievements and the lasting legacy of United Way of Greater Newark as a transformative force in addressing critical issues within the community.
Catherine Wilson, CEO & president of United Way of Greater Newark, expressed her enthusiasm about the event, saying: “This Centennial Gala represents a major milestone for United Way of Greater Newark.
