Porzio, Bromberg & Newman P.C. on Monday announced that Alfred “Fred” Brunetti, a commercial litigator with extensive experience advising corporations on data privacy issues, will join the firm’s Morristown office as a principal in the life sciences practice.

“With the life sciences industry being dictated by a complicated patchwork of state-by-state privacy regulations, Fred’s background is exactly what we need to keep our clients abreast of regulatory change at the FTC, throughout the U.S. and across Europe,” Vito Gagliardi Jr., managing principal of Porzio, said. “Fred will complement our best-in-class, multidisciplinary team with the privacy compliance oversight our life sciences clients so desperately need. We expect clients of other practices, such as M&A, bankruptcy and education, to benefit from his privacy counsel as well.”

Combining his extensive litigation experience with his in-depth knowledge of privacy laws and best practices, Brunetti regularly advises clients on privacy issues relating to the collection of personal information, data management and more. He will bring those skills to Porzio’s life sciences practice, which advises pharmaceutical, medical device and biotech clients ranging from venture-backed startups to industry giants. The practice provides a wide array of compliance and regulatory counseling services at every stage of the life sciences commercialization process.

“One of the biggest draws for me to Porzio was the opportunity to add a critical layer to the firm’s highly regarded compliance work in the life sciences industry,” Brunetti said. “Adding the essential privacy component to this practice, and others that require deep data privacy expertise, is very exciting to me. I look forward to joining such an impressive team and helping clients navigate the complexities of data privacy law.”

Before joining Porzio, Brunetti was a partner at McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter LLP, where he spent most of his career. There, in addition to providing privacy counseling, he litigated a range of shareholder and contractual disputes, intellectual property actions, business torts and employment matters. He began his legal career as a law clerk for the Hon. Elaine L. Davis in Hudson County, and then as an assistant prosecutor in the Union County Prosecutor’s Office in Elizabeth.
