SCCC’s Funding Their Future event supports student scholarships

Sussex County Community College’s premier fundraising event, “Funding Their Future,” at scenic Perona Farms in Andover on Nov. 29 was a celebratory evening complete with music, food and the chance to mingle, while helping students achieve their academic goals.

Guests enjoyed a reception with cocktails and light fare from local restaurants and students in the college’s Culinary Arts program.

Welcome remarks came from Stan Kula, executive director of the foundation, and Roger Thomas, foundation chair, along with a video presentation.

The college’s annual scholarship event has taken place for the past 23 years and helps bridge the financial gap for SCCC students. Through fundraising events such as Funding Their Future, the foundation brings together area business leaders, college alumni, faculty, students and staff to assist Sussex students financially. This past year, the foundation awarded more than $160,000 in scholarship funds to eligible students.

“It’s a wonderful evening that brings the community together to support our students, the college and the programs offered here,” Kula said. “The foundation is so grateful for the support from our attendees, our business partners and the community.”

The college foundation works to establish and maintain partnerships with corporate and foundation donors. This year’s Platinum Event Sponsor was Thorlabs, along with the many community partners that sponsored the event.
