The Professional Women in Construction – New Jersey Chapter (PWC-NJ) recently named Swarupa Samant, principal at New Brunswick-based DIGroup Architecture (DIG), to its board of directors.
PWC-NJ is a professional organization dedicated to supporting, advancing and connecting women to promote diversity across the architecture, engineering, construction and related industries.
“Today’s professional women in construction – including the ACE fields of architecture, construction and engineering – are expanding upon the progress of their predecessors by widening the talent pool through greater, more diverse representation and career opportunities,” Samant said, who also cited increased productivity, creativity, innovation and collaboration as just a few attributes women often bring to these industry roles.
“These women are succeeding because of their endless talent, unrivaled competence and high-caliber aptitude,” she added, “as well as a personal and professional commitment to increase awareness that construction careers are in high demand and an extremely viable career path for women.”
Based in Holmdel PWC-NJ represents a broad spectrum of the construction industry, from general contractors, professional services and engineering to vendor suppliers/distributors/manufacturers and owners, developers and owner representatives. Membership is open to professionals of all genders, private companies, public agencies in construction and allied industries.
Since joining MBE/DBE/SBE-certified DIG in 2014, Samant has quickly risen through the ranks to the role of principal, managing $200+M in construction projects. She also holds the distinction as the firm’s first minority female to be named principal.
