Flying Fish brewery files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection

Flying Fish Brewing Co., one of the oldest craft breweries in the state, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection at the end of 2023 — the latest in a series of moves the Somerdale-based brewery has made in an effort to find its footing.

Flying Fish announced in April that it was being acquired by Cape May Brewing Co. in a deal that was supposed to create a $10 million company. That deal, however, fell through during the summer.

In the fall, Cape May announced it was selling its brand rights to four wholesalers in Molson Coors’ New Jersey network:

Flying Fish, which was founded in 1995 in Cherry Hill, is owned by Scranton-based private equity firm Elk Lake Capital. It has long been a favorite in South Jersey, winning a number of national awards.

Reports indicate the company has $1.3 million in assets and $9.3 million in liabilities.
