SCLSNJ presented with 2023 Healthier Somerset Above & Beyond Award

On Dec. 19, the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey was honored to receive the 2023 Healthier Somerset Above & Beyond Award at Healthier Somerset‘s annual meeting.

“As a member of Healthier Somerset’s Access to Care subcommittee, SCLSNJ participated in a demonstrated effort to ‘ensure residents access to affordable, equitable and high-quality services where they are treated with dignity and respect in order to improve health and thrive in the communities they call home,'” Darryl Voorhees, SCLSNJ staff member and Healthier Somerset coalition member, said. “Receiving this award is an honor of the highest magnitude and exemplary of our priority to serve and participate in community engagement.”

The award is given to a coalition member or team who goes “above and beyond” on behalf of Healthier Somerset.

“Public libraries across the United States function as integral civic bodies, offering more than just their collection of materials,” Cathy DeBerry, SCLSNJ staff member and Healthier Somerset coalition member, said. “Libraries play a significant role in bolstering various aspects of societal well-being and serve as trusted institutions in our communities. The collaboration between SCLSNJ and RWJUH’s Healthier Somerset holds particular significance, particularly in areas with more vulnerable populations. In an increasingly complex and evolving world, these kinds of partnerships remain essential.”
