Wawa’s Jason Read will join the board of the New Jersey Food Council as vice chair when the food retailer association holds its annual membership meeting later this month.
Read, director of store operations, Region 1 – Central & North Jersey, will be elected to a board that is led by Chair Andrew Kent of Glass Gardens ShopRite.
NJFC CEO Linda Doherty said she is thrilled Read is taking a larger role.
“Jason has been an engaged and visionary board member, and we are pleased that he is taking on this new leadership role with the New Jersey Food Council,” she said. “Jason is an enthusiastic strategic operator and collaborator dedicated to advancing our mission and agenda.”
Read, of Westfield, joined Wawa seven years ago as director of store operations, supporting more than 115 stores in Central and North Jersey and 10 area managers. Prior to Wawa, Read was on the team at Starbucks Coffee Co. for 14 years in roles across all domestic business operations.
Read sits on the board of the Wawa Foundation, the board of Convenience Store Women and the Operators Advisory Council at Winsight Media.
The meeting, to be held Jan. 23, will include an introduction of new NJFC members in attendance, as well as unveil the 2024 sponsors.
The 2024 board officers to be re-elected along with Kent include: Nicholas Brown of KraftHeinz, associate vice chair; Michael Rothwell of Pennington Quality Market, treasurer; and Michael Styer of Acme Markets, secretary.
