N.J. American Water, parent company’s foundation donate $50K towards food insecurity

Contributions made to 5 organizations battling hunger across state

The Camden-based American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., and New Jersey American Water together provided a total of $50,000 in donations last month to five nonprofit organizations that are battling food insecurity throughout the company’s service area.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support provided by the American Water Charitable Foundation and New Jersey American Water,” Torrina Bennett-Michael, director of external affairs of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, which is one of the five recipients, said. “With this donation and New Jersey American Water’s year-round support of our events, we can continue to strengthen our efforts in providing vital assistance to over 530,000 people within our 15-county service area who face hunger.”

“At New Jersey American Water, our commitment extends far beyond delivering quality service,” Mark McDonough, president of New Jersey American Water and board member of the American Water Charitable Foundation, said. “We take immense pride in our role within the communities we serve. Partnering with our local New Jersey food banks, we are able to support and serve the needs of our customers by actively combatting this critical issue of food insecurity.”

Five organizations across New Jersey American Water’s footprint received donations totaling $50,000 last month:

Carrie Williams, president of the American Water Charitable Foundation, added: “The American Water Charitable Foundation is proud to partner with New Jersey American Water and support its commitment to local food banks throughout the state. This initiative aligns with our strategic focus on communities, ensuring we get dollars to where they are needed most.”

Funding from the American Water Charitable Foundation was provided through the Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program’s State Strategic Impact grant. State Strategic Impact grants support high-impact projects and initiatives that enrich local relationships and strengthen communities served by American Water.
