Valley Health System names new chair of cardiovascular service line

Valley Health System said it recently elevated Dr. Suneet Mittal to the position of chair of its cardiovascular service line.

In his new role, Mittal will oversee the operations of cardiovascular care offered through Valley Medical Group and the Valley Hospital.

Mittal will also continue to serve as the director of electrophysiology for the Valley Hospital, medical director of the Snyder Center for Comprehensive Atrial Fibrillation at the Valley Hospital and director of cardiac research for Valley Health System.

Dr. Gerald Sotsky, the former chair, will serve as the associate chair of cardiac services for Valley Medical Group.

“I would like to personally thank Dr. Sotsky for his years of dedicated service,” Mittal said. “Under Dr. Sotsky’s leadership, Valley has established an alliance with the nationally ranked Cleveland Clinic Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute; significantly expanded our breadth of cardiac services and available treatment options; and helped recruit a distinguished roster of cardiovascular specialists.

“I have had the pleasure of working alongside Dr. Sotsky for years. In my new role, I look forward to continuing to grow and shape the future of cardiovascular care at Valley to offer patients the high-quality, multidisciplinary team approach to care that we are known for.”

Mittal is board certified in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. In addition, he holds an academic appointment as a clinical professor of medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.

Mittal’s active research interests include the evaluation and management of patients with atrial fibrillation, the evaluation and management of patients with unexplained syncope (fainting), the role of implantable monitors in patients with known or suspected arrhythmias and overcoming barriers to remote patient monitoring.
