It’s the easiest aspect of the weather to predict: When the temperature goes down, calls for heating, ventilation and air conditioning service go up.
Way up.
The recent cold spell in New Jersey that appears to finally be breaking certainly proved the theory. Public Service Enterprise Group officials said the company responded to approximately 6,500 “no heat” service calls over the weekend — many of which came from customers who have the company’s WorryFree service plan.
Here’s what many don’t know: You don’t have to have the plan to get PSEG service. Any customer is eligible for service — even if many people don’t realize this. And it’s more than just HVAC systems; the company can handle most appliances, too.
The company has more than five dozen full-time techs to do the work.
A PSEG spokesperson said the company’s standard is to respond within 24 hours — but most calls are handled within 12.
The spokesperson said having a worry-free contract (approximately 341,000 do) makes service calls and repairs free (even on weekends).
