Consensus Health names Michael Lovett its CEO

Lovett, current president and chief operating officer, becomes leader of organization

Consensus Health, a Marlton-based health care organization with a physician-led medical group and an Independent Physician Alliance, on Tuesday said Michael Lovett has assumed the role of CEO.

Lovett previously served as the organization’s president and chief operating officer and will retain the president position.

In his new capacity, Lovett will continue to oversee day-to-day operations, finance, sales and marketing, value-based care initiatives and human resources/compliance at Consensus Health and at the company’s affiliated medical practices.

Lovett initially joined Consensus Health in May 2021 as chief operating officer. In October 2022, he was appointed interim president and was officially named the company’s president in June 2023. During his tenure, he dramatically contributed to the company’s overall strategic direction and growth and led the expansion of its growing medical practices throughout New Jersey, which now total nearly 60 statewide under the Consensus Health umbrella.

“I deeply appreciate the trust our board of managers, physician leadership and the entire Consensus Health team has placed in me. I am honored to be promoted to chief executive officer and will work to preserve the role of the independent physician, since it is profoundly important to our company, as well as to all our member physicians, patients and payors,” Lovett said.

“Consensus Health brings a differentiating and distinctive model to the people of New Jersey, which has made a dramatic impact on the local health care landscape. Unlike many other geographic areas, Consensus Health has worked to preserve and protect the independent physician model, and, as a result, our community has realized numerous advantages in terms of direct improvements in overall patient health, positive impacts from our value-based care programs, benefits of cost efficiencies and improvements in outcomes from our innovative model. We are gratified that New Jersey residents can truly benefit from our ability to maintain the power of the independent physician,” he concluded.

Lovett has 25 years of health care experience, previously serving as chief operating officer at Northwell Direct, a division of Northwell Health. Earlier, he was chief commercial officer at Formativ Health, a Northwell-affiliated company. Prior, he spent eight years in roles of increasing responsibility at NextGen Healthcare (a health care information technology company providing electronic health records and practice management tools). Lovett also held business development, sales and operations positions at various health care companies, including a 10-year stint at WebMD Practice Services. He holds a Bachelor of Science in organizational management and finance from Wilmington University in New Castle, Delaware and an MBA in executive leadership from the Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics at the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware.

Consensus Health’s network spans more than 160 New Jersey-based independent primary care providers and specialty doctors across 69 locations in its medical group, while the IPA includes more than 600 providers and two service organizations.
