We make it our business to ask questions. Lots of questions.
Here’s the one we get back the most: How are people selected for the ROI Influencers lists?
It’s not a simple answer. Here’s a detailed look at the process:
Step one: It starts by following the business world, which we do, 365 days a year. Key figures in key stories/events/transactions/accomplishments always are noted.
But we don’t stop there.
Step two: We seek out and receive additional nominations from readers. This happens throughout the year. And there never is a charge to nominate.
Step three: We ask top leaders in top sectors to nominate others in other sectors they work with. For instance, we may ask a group of people in real estate development for nominations in construction, architecture or brokerage. We ask people in all sectors to nominate service providers (bankers, lawyers, accountants) who best serve their industry. To ensure we get a good cross-section of nominees, we ask different people every list.
Step four: After gathering a list of nominees for various lists — or various categories within list — we’ll ask a new set of businesspeople for their take on the nominations. Who are the best of the bunch? And are there others that deserve to be reviewed? If so, we’ll take additional nominations back to other leaders to gauge their worthiness.
Step five: Those who are judged the highest among these nominations, recommendations and reviews, make our list.
It’s the main reason we can proudly tell honorees each year: Your selection means you are highly thought of by a large cross section of the business world.
It’s a great feeling for the honorees — one that no one can question.
